I love how emblematic these panels are of the two of them: knock Clark down, and he isn’t going to come roaring to tear your head off. He’s going to want to learn how you did that, because not only is he incapable of resentment, he is hungry for knowledge, with a mind that won’t ever stop taking in information, searching for new information. And Bruce? Ya dumb fuck, you have no idea how to play baseball. Why on earth would he agree to play? Because he totally believes that he can learn it, on his own, without any help, in the four seconds it takes for the pitch to arrive. They both want to learn, but Clark will always reach for a person to teach him, and Bruce will always recoil from reaching for a person who can teach him. It’s Clark’s deep trust of the universe next to Bruce’s deep distrust. And slowly, inch by inch, Bruce will teach Clark how to be wary, and even more slowly, inch by excruciating inch, Clark will teach Bruce how to trust.
